Let Us Tell You A
STORY
So, like many good stories, the story of UpLink starts out on a sunny summer day in the town of Belmont, ON.
Two friends, Jay and Brad, were standing in Brad’s back yard having a beer after completing some work on Brad’s driveway. As they were enjoying their delicious craft beers from the local liquor store they start to chat about Jay’s Internet. For those of you that don’t know, Jay lives just north of the village of Mapleton.
Jay explained to Brad how slow his Internet was and, how because he had kids, most months they had gone over their usage limit by the middle (if not sooner) causing the Internet to become un-usable.
Well Brad, who is a full time Network Systems Engineer, explained how he had built multiple point-to-point networks for other customers in similar situations. As they continued to talk and enjoy their beers, Brad noticed a set of silos south of Belmont, near Jay’s house. He asked Jay, “Do you know that guy?” Jay said, “Yeah, that’s Carl – he’s a great guy!”
So, Jay and Brad set off to talk to Carl. They found out that Carl’s Internet provider had just sent a letter to all their customers informing them that they were shutting down the Rural Internet division – thereby leaving Carl, and all of Carl’s neighbor’s, stranded.
Brad explained to Carl how they wanted to use his silo to build a radio tower. Carl thought this sounded great. An Internet provider built by his neighbors, to help his neighbors. Of course Carl said “YES!”
And here we are today growing fast and aggressively.
We promise to keep UpLink grounded firmly in its roots – local, home grown, for our neighbours by your neighbours.
Sincerely,
Brad Mousseau / Jay Beecroft
